November 10, 2020 - Ottawa, ON (Unceded Algonquin Anishnaabeg Territory) – Today, the BC Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) announces it is launching a lawsuit against RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki. The BCCLA is suing the RCMP Commissioner for inexcusable delays preventing the release of a civilian watchdog report into RCMP spying on Indigenous and climate advocates.

Canada ratified the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination more than 50 years ago on October 14, 1970.

The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) is the body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention.

In December 2019, the Committee called on Canada to “immediately cease construction of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion project … until free, prior and informed consent is obtained from all the Secwepemc people.”

Failed arrest attempt leads to police retreat, barricades of burning tires

SIX NATIONS, Ont. — An argument between police and land defenders erupted in violence Thursday when officers tried to arrest someone outside a protest camp on Haudenosaunee territory.

Witnesses say police fired at least six rubber bullets and tasered a young man after someone threw a rock at their cruiser. In the ensuing chaos, Ontario Provincial Police fell back to a reinforced position about 500 metres from the camp’s back entrance.

Massive support for Bolivia’s Movimiento al Socialismo at the polls is a rejection of last year’s Canadian-backed coup against Evo Morales. The vote was also a blow to Trudeau’s policy of seeking to overthrow left-wing governments in the region.

On Sunday Morales’ former finance minister, Luis Acre, won 55% of the vote for president. His MAS party also took a large majority in the Congress.
